This short course will cover common anesthetic and analgesic questions that we often hear from our referring veterinarians. The first half of this course includes discussion of common anesthetic misconceptions, anesthetic monitoring and trouble-shooting, anesthetic management of geriatric patients and pocket pets. The second portion is devoted to pain management, including basics of pain management, regional and local analgesic techniques, and alternative analgesic therapies such as acupuncture and non-traditional pharmacologic analgesics. Attendees should expect to take away up-to-date information on anesthetic monitoring equipment, anesthetic trouble-shooting and common anesthetic questions. The course will also provide state of the art considerations in management of geriatric dogs and cats and exotic pets. The sessions on pain management will allow practitioners to include new techniques for dental blocks and other regional blocks as well as incorporate new(er) drugs into their analgesic protocols in the management of patients with acute pain or chronically painful conditions.
