At the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, we believe that being a veterinarian is more than just a profession.

The History of WVMA

The Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) was founded in 1915, when the Wisconsin Society of Veterinary Graduates and the Wisconsin State Veterinary Society merged. The WVMA held its first annual meeting in 1916. It was at that time that the association’s name, constitution and bylaws were adopted.

Over the years, the WVMA has continued to evolve. Today, WVMA membership is open to entire clinic staff teams to expand our reach and allow more to benefit from our strong advocacy and continuing education programs.  Although the association has seen many changes, the focus has remained constant – to promote the benefits of veterinary medicine and ensure the health and safety of animals and those who care for them.

The WVMA’s Mission

Mission: To advocate and promote veterinary medicine, while enriching animal and human health.

To accomplish this mission, WVMA members lead with four guiding principles: integrity, compassion, community and well-being.

Key Benefits of Membership

The WVMA is a community of individuals committed to advancing veterinary medicine in Wisconsin. Our membership model allows entire clinic staff teams to join the WVMA, further expanding our reach of providing cutting edge CE and legislative representation on issues affecting the veterinary medical profession and small business.

Advocacy

The WVMA is daily monitoring and involved with policy and advocacy issues that affect veterinary medicine and small business.  An outside legislative council of registered lobbyists works on behalf of WVMA members to ensure the veterinary medical field is represented and their views are heard.

Robust Monthly CE

The WVMA understands the importance of continuing education. That’s why all WVMA CE events are open to entire clinic staff teams. We know it can be challenging to be away from home and work responsibilities for several days at a time, so we offer one-day CE opportunities at locations around the state. Educational events are offered monthly and are a mix of scientific, non-scientific and leadership CE.

Member Resources

WVMA membership gives you access to an extensive classified advertising network posted online and in our monthly WVMA Voice newsletter. In addition, you will receive exclusive member discounts at select businesses that have aligned with the WVMA.

News and Industry Updates

WVMA members have access to our monthly WVMA Voice newsletter and receive electronic communications about issues and events important to veterinary medicine. Members also receive email alerts of breaking industry news to keep them informed.

Professional Network

As a WVMA member you are part of a community. Members have the ability to network with other veterinarians and clinic staff, as well as veterinary medical students. WVMA members find support from one another and as a result, new friendships are formed.

Grassroots Driven

The WVMA is committee-based, so our members make the decisions and lead the association. There are countless opportunities to get involved and use your skills!

“I find significant value in my membership with the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association.  Countless resources are readily available for completion of my CE credits as well as the pathways to identify supportive networks for the challenges encountered while working in this career.  Active involvement with this organization has allowed me a first hand glimpse at the team who works tirelessly behind the scenes to maintain the vitality of Wisconsin’s veterinary profession.  I have full confidence that my membership dollars provide me with great benefits.”
